We organized Wilmington’s first Clean Water Week to mark the one year anniversary of the discovery of the chemical contaminant GenX in Wilmington’s drinking water.
Five local environmental groups–Cape Fear Surfrider, Cape Fear River Watch, Cape Fear Sierra Club, Plastic Ocean Project, and NC Coastal Federation–hosted a series of community events from June 1-7.
The capstone event, a town hall at Cape Fear Community College, featured a panel discussion and Q&A with the region’s leading water quality experts. Hosted by WHQR reporter Vince Winkle, the panel discussion drew over 200 attendees from the community and was covered by all of the local news outlets.
In addition to creating the concept for Clean Water Week, we:
* Collaborated with local area non-profits
* Planned events and managed vendors
* Developing and executed the marketing strategy
* Managed press outreach and PR
* Gave on-air and print interviews
* Designed the branding
* Designed print posters, ads, and digital strategy
Clean Water Week was covered in 12 unique articles or newscasts by 9 different media outlets, and was featured on the front page of StarNews, Wilmington’s local newspaper.
