“The portrait of Saya exceeded my expectations. I knew it would be good but the portrait really captures the details and depth of Saya down to the little markings we knew by heart.
Having the portrait means a lot to us. Since Saya passed, little reminders of her like pictures, toys, and keepsakes have been very meaningful. The portrait occupies a different space for us. It’s a beautiful reminder of the love and understanding Amber and I felt from our Husky ”

GETTING GREAT PET PHOTOS
Get down low
Sit or lie down on the floor or ground to get to your pet’s eye level. Getting down on the ground with them also engages them more.
Shoot during the day
Use natural lighting either outside or indoors by the light of a nearby window. Don’t use your flash. Photographing your pet outdoors in the shade, like under tree or a covered porch, is ideal–this approach provides even lighting and captures more detail.
Get closer
When taking photo, your pet’s eyes should be the main focus. With the eyes in focus, the rest of the image will work better.
WHAT TO AVOID
Uneven or harsh lighting
Parts of the photo are washed out by too much light (AKA “blown out”) or your pet’s cloaked in a Renaissance-era darkness that obscures all details.
Odd angles
Odd or unusual angles can hide important features or emphasis less important features (like a close up with huge paws in the foreground and a small blurry head in the background)
Blurry
As visual problem solvers, we can fix a lot of things–blurry isn’t one of them:) When photographing your pet, make sure the eyes and head are in focus.
Taking photos indoors at night
Indoor lighting without any natural light tends to flatten the subject. Shooting in natural lighting in the shade is ideal.
Our Process
Step 1
We’ll meet via zoom or in person if you’re in the Knoxville, TN area. During this initial meeting, we’ll talk about you, your pet, and your ideas for the portrait.
We’ll review any photos you have, determine the portrait size, media (colored pencil, watercolor, or acrylic), and when you’d like to have the finished portrait in hand.
We’ll also talk about any writing you’d like to include on the portrait or other special requests.
Step 2
After your consultation, you’ll be invoiced for a 50% deposit. Once you secure your spot by paying the deposit, email 3-5 good quality reference photos of your pet to cordelia@lunacreates.com.
See the discussion above for tips to take great reference photos. If your pet’s crossed the rainbow bridge, I’ll work with you to find your best photos.
Your deposit secures your spot and is non-refundable. Your satisfaction is guaranteed and we’ll work with you to ensure that you’re happy with the finished portrait.
Step 3
We’ll email you a detailed pencil sketch to confirm that everything looks good before starting the portrait.
Step 4
We’ll email you images of the portrait in progress and a final image of the finished painting. We’ll also confirm the in-hands date.
Step 5
Delivery or pickup (if local) or shipping of the finished portrait. Standard shipping is free within the continental US. If shipping, we’ll provide you tracking information and the expected arrival date.
Step 6
Once the painting’s complete, final payment’s due within 7 days. Past 7 days, late fees of $50 are applied. The final payment must be received before the portrait’s shipped.

“My wife opened up her portrait and just absolutely loved it. It came out great, the details of his coloring, and posture matched up with him perfectly. Thank you again for taking the time on short notice and working with me and doing such a great job. Looking forward to working with you again!”
